Bye Bye, Itchy Sweater!

We’ve all been there: You’ve finally found that gorgeous wool sweater, but as soon as you put it on, the itchy show begins. Luckily, you don’t have to write off your beautiful purchase right away. There’s a simple DIY method to get rid of those itchy fibers. Although mohair is known for its softness and luxurious feel, it can be irritating for some people with sensitive skin. If you find that your skin reacts sensitively to natural fibers like mohair, here are a few tips to maximize comfort:

1. Turn your sweater inside out

Turning your sweater inside out protects the outside and allows you to tackle the inside – the exact spot where your skin comes into contact with the material.

2. Soak it in lukewarm water with a dash of conditioner

Yes, you read that right: hair conditioner! Fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water and add a little conditioner. The conditioner will help soften the fibers and make them less irritating. Let the sweater soak in the water for about 15 minutes.

3. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry

Rinse the sweater thoroughly with cold water to remove all of the conditioner, and wring it out gently. Lay it flat to dry, and voila – your sweater should now feel much softer!

Extra tip: If the sweater still itches a bit, try wearing it over a thin long-sleeved top or blouse.

And there you have it: an easy way to transform your itchy sweater into a soft cuddly toy!
